This is the final call.

cevroncity formerly known as 8-bitcity has come to an end. I have found that not only is the trouble of other people keeping this a secret too much, but it is also too much of an effort to maintain this blog for no good reason (especially whilst some smartass is hacking friends Facebook accounts, Twitter accounts and blogs - no, we don't understand why either).
I will be honest, as always, Cape Town and "the scene" is not worth it. To all you hipsters, posers, wanna-be musicians and DJs, you're a pathetic bunch to try and work with. Your music is always the same, you dress like the person next to you, and you always strike the same poses trying to compete for the most original pose.

I understand that other parties, such as we-are-awesome, the Assembly and a few selected DJ's have receieved positive attention from cevroncity being around, but this idea of a blog was not meant to be a fucking advertising space for you and it sickens me to shit that it turned out this way.

cevroncity will not be returning via new blogspot or Twitter. So lower your wayferrers, talk about it over lattes at vida, talk to your hairdresser at scar about it, write about it on your blogs, express the loss over Facebook statuses. Do what you must. The email address however will still exist for those of you interested in contacting me for whatever reason you may have: cevroncity@gmail.com.

To the indie kids, good luck with finding out the definition of "indie" and trying to relate it to yourselves.

To the 30-something year old salesmen in swanky (yes, swanky) shops on Kloof Street (and now Vineyard Road apparently?), I hope you one day do get a decent job, even if it is in retail.

To the DJs, good luck with trying to make heartless kids feel your music.

To the musicians, I hope you one day move out of Bellville if you're going to continue taking yourself seriously (a flat in Gardens does not count as moving out).

To the rest of you, Assembly, Fiction, Kloof Street and the Biscuit Mill is not the way forward.

GAME OVER

  2. Did the responsibilty just get to much? You,them, they, she,he, or she-male will be missed! Thank you for re-introducing Cape Town, to the word swanky. Thats probably the closest we ever going to get to finding out the identity of our friend cevron. Its a shame that you had to leave us on such a weak note. Whats that saying...check yourself, before you wreck yourself!

PS: if you really do take the south african music industry/scene seriously, then you just as much of an idiot as the people feeding us with their bullshit perception...peace

  3. Swanky

Swanky pronounced as it is spelt is a term used when something is so bad that it is Shit and Wank at the same time.

"Hes such a Swanker. (Shit Wanker)"

  4. Brave, very brave.

It's a wonder how we-are-awesome is going to survive without you. Not to mention bands like Dear John Love Emma and Tigerstrike who probably got all their attention from you mentioning their names once in a while.

Cape Town, shape up. We don't have anyone to keep us in order anymore.

  5. What a tragedy! Your incisive and revolutionary social commentary will be sorely missed.

If you have such a problem with the "Cape Town scene" (as you insist on calling it, complete with quotation marks) then why do you continue to participate? I suggest you follow the real life analogue of your own advice and avoid going out to the places for which you provided oh-so-much publicity (nearly 2300 hits! at least 20 aren't revisits!) if you don't enjoy them.

This blog was never anything other than a vessel for your personal grievances, usually with individual people. As such, you provided little service other than mildly upsetting the people you mocked. Perhaps if your delivery had been a little more intelligent, witty or satirical it would be been alright - at least entertaining. In the absence of those things, however, it amounted to little more than public defamation.

The most annoying thing about this steaming pile of blog was that you thinly veiled it as a mechanism of constructive transformation.

That notion is a little bit weak to begin with, but it would seem that you consider it a worthy one. I just thought I'd point that out to anyone reading (and you). You're disguising a reprehensible function with a silly ideal.

Final take-home thought: why don't you go to Tin-Roof and complain about schoolgirls and popped collars? Why participate in a particular social group and then bitch about its constituents? Why generalize a straw-man caricature of the average person within that social group and tear it down? It's just not very smart at all. Go do something useful with your endless talents and unassailably perfect character.

While most people were preoccupied with 'WHO IS CEVRON?' (OH MY GOD CARE ABOUT THIS! "I'M GONNA FUCK YOU UP BRU") I was more concerned with 'WHAT IS CEVRON?

    1) Lonely
    2) Bitter
    3) 'On-the-fringe'
    4) Wiling for attention
    5) 20s
    6) White
    7) Male
    8) Dropped-out of University
    9) Famous quote: 'I could have done better but I didn't study and I wanted to do something creative'
    10) Failing at life a little bit, but in denial

If you disagree with any of my conjectures, see 10).

I would write more, but I have to go think about 'what indie really means'. You fucking pillock.

"Why participate in a particular social group and then bitch about its constituents?"

..have to agree with anonymous, although I did enjoy this blog, it really was unproductive.

    Read a book. Swanker.

  11. ha! good lord. go mister c. i only got to this through Fat Chinese Boi where belushi posted a link...

    advanced capitalist society:
if its Lame, like these shitty 'scenes' get, stop supporting it. then it will suffer, in order to survive it will get better. thats capitalism, thats how we get individualism, thats we get advanced shit like windows 7.

supporting something for the desperate patriotic clingy righteous sake of supporting is self defeating, support has to be discerning too.

little cevron will be happy because he/she/it/they will keep doing shit they want to do, whether they 'ought' to or not.
good stuff is nice, bad stuff is boring, it makes no sense to support bad stuff... go get a proudly south african logo tattooed on your ass, you Dissenters.

  12. started out well but got a bit depressing as the frame of reference became smaller and smaller, up to the point where the only talk was about cevron, those who wanted to fuck it and those who wanted to fuck it up.

scenesters in CT have never had a sense of humour. the daily struggle of remaining relevant saps all their lifeforce, so its no wonder they got all fed up. fuck them you should have carried on. there is fuck all independent criticism in this city as it is.

  13. "oh my god - listen to all you fukin wankers

    anon with your ten points

    you a total idiot

    really

i mean what u say is partly true ... but why do you even care ... are you a bit attention starved yourself... do you dream of commanding the attention of 2000 people over the space of a month ?

and of your 10 points ... none are correct

    except maybe 1.

thank god we can put this shit to bed ....

    lame"

I will only deign to respond to a couple of these 'criticisms'.

I care because this guy personally attacked people that I quite like, even if I don't enjoy their 'artistic endeavours', which was never what 8-bit city was about in the first place. Constructive criticism is very different to straight out defamation. Defending cevron on the grounds that he offered independent criticism is complete shit. I will concede that there is no culture of critical review in South Africa, let alone Cape Town, though. However, cevron never provided that service.

Another thing - it took me absolutely no time to comment on this blog. Given the apparent difficulty you have with the English language, I imagine it would be hard for you to envision somewhat writing a well crafted response in a short amount of time.

HEY! Maybe it's because 'you a total idiot'. Well tried, though.

    PS: Before the inevitable

    Q: "lol u wanker lol if u so smrt then y don't u write a crticl blog?"

A: It's because I am neither capable nor qualified to do so. Also I am quite busy.

  14. Cevron, I respect you purely because you wrote a blog that called the Bullshit card on the Cape Town Indie scene. It really is heartwarming to know there are like-minded people out there who can see the Kloof Street scene for what it is: A bunch of wanky, self-conscious posers all trying to top each other.

I hope they eventually DO top each other. In the killing sense of the word.

Your blog was bloody entertaining. Never forget that.

"sweaty kids on pills aren't kids anymore.

so many shows and no one comes out"

    RIP

    and love from Londres
